Summary

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. Endoscopic images of gastrointestinal stromal tumors usually show a subepithelial tumor lesion with an intact mucosa. However, differential diagnosis of subepithelial lesions is broad. In this paper, we present a case of a patient with MALT lymphoma of the stomach, the endoscopic image of which closely imitated that of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor. The current treatment for MALT lymphomas is, however, fundamentally different from those used to treat gastrointestinal stromal lesions. Although endosonographic examinations are an important component of examination algorithms for subepithelial lesions, histological verification is necessary for accurate diagnosis.
