Summary

Hepatitis E is a viral disease transmitted by the faecal-oral route. It is associated with some endemic parts of the world, most often with low hygienic standards. According to data from WHO (World Health Organization) in 2014 there are estimated to be over 20 million cases of hepatitis E each year. In Slovakia and surrounding European countries, including the Czech Republic, the infection occurs mainly as an imported infection from the affected areas. Our case report describes a case of sporadic viral hepatitis E in a 78-year-old patient.
